A first principle is a basic, foundational, self-evident proposition or assumption that cannot be deduced from any other proposition or assumption.
Inspiring Individuals lives by it
Elon Musk states "you boil things down to the most fundamental truths … and then reason up from there." It is this thinking which he built three groundbreaking organisations on. Tesla, SpaceX and SolarCity.
Artists rhyme about it
Eminem: Lose Yourself
If you had
Or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted
In one moment
Would you capture
Or just let it slip?
It is practised by nature
Forests burn down so that new things can appear. Not just one or two new things, it happens on a grand scale around us every day. This process is the earth living by first principles. Asking the question "If this forest was to start from scratch, what would it look like?".
Movies are written about it
"You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes."
The blue pill is about falsehood, security and the blissful ignorance of illusion. That you aren't in control of your own future.
The term red pill refers to a human that is aware of the true nature of the Matrix. The red pill is about knowledge, freedom and the sometimes painful truth of reality. It is about that there is a reset button you can press. You can reset your thinking, your environment, your life.
You as a human should practice it too.
In simple terms, it is about taking things away until there is nothing left to remove. It is a process of turning all the switches off so that you can switch back on only a few things. The correct things. The needed things.
It is the equivalent of using the lift to get to the next level in life instead of the stairs. Like one of those portals in a game like Super Mario brother where if you jump into the correct one, it allows to skip a section or even a few levels.
Is this process easy? Nope. You are in a way giving yourself an "F" for each and every decision you made up until this point. To be better at the subject of life. Will it be worth it? It already is in so many ways, and this is just the beginning. The sun is just starting to rise at the moment. Difference is this time around, I know where all the important bits go now and what they should look like.
Some might see this a giving up on life. But isn't it the biggest bet on life, the ability to in one swoop fix everything which holds you back?
To make a completely clean break and rebuild a world based on all the previous knowledge gained. But without those previous decisions holding you back. This time around they serve only as lessons and a reminder of what to do better this time around.
This process has served to remind me of an often forgotten fact about life. Very few things in life is drawn onto it using a pen. Most of it is drawn in pencil, and I can erase and redraw it at any time. Sure it is more difficult for some things than others. But it is still just a pencil drawing if you question it back down to its fundamentals.
It only appears a few times in your life. The opportunity to press reset. Is this the perfect environment to do this now? Of course not. But it is the period with the least resistance to do so. Who knows, the "perfect environment" might only appear ten years from now. The odds of not being around or the opportunity cost lost due to waiting for those one or two things to still improve is frankly not worth the wait.
If anyone asks where I've gone, the current answer would be, I had to go see about building a beautiful life. I'm counting sunrises now not sunset. It is all about new beginnings at the moment. Have the courage to hit reset.
