It matters when people say or think you are crazy: It doesn't. What people think about you or about what you do, is irrelevant. Because it takes no action from their or your part. What does matter however, is how it makes you and others feel about the world. Which is only possible, through your or someone else's actions.
I was on the receiving end of exactly this a few weeks ago. What can only be described as a complete stranger, offered me a once in a lifetime opportunity to move out of my own comfort zone. She is single handily daring me to be great through her amazing gesture of reaching out to someone, me for some reason, to feel the world is an awesome place filled with amazing people and possibilities.
It is the kind of gesture and support which I've always convinced myself only happens to other individuals. You only hear about stories like this, but never expect or in some case believe, it is impossible that it will ever happen to you. It certainly isn't something strangers would just do for each other. This individual, who I spoke to for maybe ten minutes before in my life, is willing to forgo of a large chunk of her own profits, because she feels she is in the business of changing the world. I can only think how amazing she must be towards her subordinates, friends and family in her life.
Crazy that someone would do this for a complete stranger? Maybe. But it made a massive impact on how I feel about people, not to mention about this stranger herself. The fact is a negative perception of people or about ourselves is often blocking us from seeing the good that seems to be wired in most of humanities DNA. Good things happen to us every day, and it feels awesome when it does no matter what you think about the world or people in general.
You can't change the world: Look around you. Or just read the pervious part of this blog again. We are all already changing the world. You are, difficult to believe some times, the inspiration for someone or something in your life, right now. Whether that is for your child, partner, dog, co-workers or even for your boss. It is a capability which we all have, use it and use it often, it will return when you need it the most in life. The scope of the word "world" is not that important, it is the significance of your action's impact which does make a difference. Paying it forward to even just one individual has an amazing domino effect on the world.
Getting old is a bad thing: Am I the only one who thinks old people who can reflect on their past without regret and look to the future without worry are just awesome people? They had this awaking at some point in life, hopefully, which you can't really attain any other way than spending a lot of time on earth. It is a lesson which comes only with time. Growing old without this, now that would be sad.
