“An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old one leaves.”
― Bill Vaughan
Can you imagine the mess the world would be without the new year to clear out all the things we associate with the year that just passed? Things would just build up, without a line in the sand to clear things out. Don't know about you, but I would procrastinate until the end of days if there are no new year's day to assist in the process of letting go of things. The new would never get a chance to occupy space with the old still sticking around in your mind and life, like the bad dreams they are, ever reminding you about what you could not get done with 365 days worth of effort.
Here's to the new year.
